How the Radical Left Conquered Everything | Chris Rufo
From ISI's Conservative Book of the Year Award Ceremony.
Chris Rufo, celebrated author and senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, delivered a compelling lecture in Washington, D.C., upon receiving the Intercollegiate Studies Institute's prestigious Conservative Book of the Year Award for his groundbreaking work, "America's Cultural Revolution." The lecture, held at the historic Mayflower Hotel, brought together a diverse audience of scholars, students, and policymakers, all eager to hear Rufo's insights on the seismic cultural shifts reshaping the United States.
In his lecture, Rufo explored the central themes of "America's Cultural Revolution," offering an incisive analysis of the ideological transformations that have influenced American institutions, from academia to corporate America. He traced the origins of contemporary cultural movements back to their philosophical roots, providing a detailed narrative of how radical ideologies have permeated mainstream culture and public policy.
Rufo began by contextualizing the rise of critical theories and identity politics, outlining their impact on the nation's social fabric. He delved into the historical development of these ideas, illustrating their journey from fringe academic circles to the core of American education and governance. Through a series of vivid examples and case studies, Rufo highlighted the tangible consequences of these shifts, emphasizing their implications for free speech, individual liberty, and national unity.
Throughout the lecture, Rufo emphasized the importance of reclaiming cultural and educational spaces from ideological monopolies. He proposed actionable strategies for conservatives to counteract these trends, advocating for a return to classical liberal principles and the reinforcement of traditional American values. Rufo's call to action resonated strongly with the audience, inspiring a renewed commitment to intellectual diversity and civic engagement.
Rufo's presentation was not only a critique but also a celebration of the resilient spirit of American conservatism. He highlighted success stories and grassroots movements that have successfully challenged the prevailing cultural narratives, showcasing the power of community and conviction in effecting change.
The evening concluded with a lively Q&A session, where Rufo engaged with attendees on various topics, from educational reform to media influence. His responses reflected the depth of his research and his passion for fostering a more balanced and open public discourse.

9minutes and 20 something seconds into the speech Tucker Carlson said one of the most mind-blowingly simple things I've ever heard. Tucker Carlson thank you for saying this and what you said was "Denial is the most powerful of all human instincts" it's so simple yet so profound, and so painstakingly true. So thank you for saying it so I could hear it and get my denial butt into gear and be accountable for myself.

I stuck around until the end of Chris Rufo's presentation and, how does the saying go, "the best is left for last." The one best thing said was that we all must be participants in the confrontation of ideas and debates. Anyone remembers the hippies' 1960' preferred saying, "we must tune out and drop out." Well folks it really looks like most of us have adopted this attitude over the decades not just the hippies. How else do you explain the rise of all of these very un-american ideas taking firm root in our nation's universities? And by the same token, where does anyone think all of these indoctrinated people are headed? Could it be that in short order we all start to become ruled by believes and political prerogatives initiated by these same opposing views? Our American society can no longer be clearly known as "American" mainly because the one thing that makes us American is no longer defining our common identity. People being born in this country as well as people coming to this country are less concerned with living up to our Founding Fathers' description of who we are, and more concerned with "getting what they want." Changes in attitudes, peoples' behaviors, believes, desires, and fears is the driving force behind this great shift away from being American and avoiding becoming part of what truly makes us stand-out in this soup of countries. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with uniquely American ideals like the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? You won't find these ideals in Marxism nor Communism so why is it that these foreign ideologies continue to make-up the basis of all of these radical groups in America? I think, when all is said and done, the only question that will matter is, what makes you uniquely American? ReneB, Florida.

I REALLY like Dinesh D'Souza, and have followed him for many many years. But I am wholly against him in this particular debate, and I want you to notice when he is speaking about the lack of deaths from christianity, that he ignores places like Ireland, Serbia and the multitude of places around the world where people have historically been slaughtered in the name of religion. As Christopher Hitchens himself said, Dinesh D'Souza is one of the most formidable debaters of our times, but he missteps many times in this instance. for instance, how comical is it, for a christian to bring up facts as their rallying cry, when their ENTIRE foundation of belief system is based on FAITH???? The act of believing in the absence of fact. Yet, he starts his second round by accusing CH of not using any factual evidence to affirm his stances. Lol. This is extremely hypocritical, and comical at best. Then in his next stance, Dinesh says that there is no sadomasochism in god offering us free will. So what does he call burning in hell for eternity??? Because that sounds pretty much like sadomasochism to me. As much as I like Dinesh, he misstepped many times in this debate. I am firmly on the side of Mr. Hitchens, and find his points of view to be much more salient, convincing and realistic.

Because virologist Christian Drosten suggest that SARS COV2 better replicate at very low tissue temperature (at TWiV 659 at min29) But that reveale that SARS COV2 was a temperature sensitive virus, maybe atenuated, and higher mucouseal respiratory temperature protect against Covid19. What radical left? What have they conquered? Oh you mean liberal capitalists (right wing) who are peddling a pretend culture of inclusiveness and equality from a position of owning and controlling practically everything in the world, relevantly here, the global media, and presiding over the continuing growth of the greatest inequality the world has seen since the middle ages. Of course what this actually represents is a return to PATERNALISM, these capitalists who own and control everything are trying to tell us to agree to their unlimited wealth and power because they have all our best interests at heart. So it is simply a sales pitch, like all their other sales pitches for goods and services, aimed at the widest range of customers.

It's clear that committed leftuists persist in the notion that the people running corporations and profiting unconscionably and to great excess are both conservatives and capitalists. But capitalism is just a term promoted by leftist to describe what actually develops and exists economically rather than an ideology that must be sold, marketed, and imposed to justify totalitarian control by central planners of the management and distribution of financial and hard resources. The reality is the people running many of our corporations and regulatory agencies are self-serving Predators exploiting the system and often are psychopaths, sociopaths, and Dark Triad narcissists who are heavily indoctrinated with Marxist ideology. That's why the social media companies hook up with cadres of government and ex-government employees promoting censorship and the totalitarian removal of civil liberties in what can only be described as a marriage of the state and Industry ( centralized government and business ) AND WHICH CONSTITUTES the very definition of fascism. That's also why we see half educated Marxists sporadically fighting in the streets and permeating the media with their obsession about socialism versus fascism -- which BOTH are actually competing derivatives of the totalitarian Marxist ideology that was cooked up to overthrow powerful hierarchies of nobility, royalty, mercantile industrialism, and clerical systems skimming off resources from economic activity and static assets -- and controlling both behavior, public discourse including academic and political speech. Marxism revealed the naked self-interest of the players in all economic and social systems, but only justifies the operation of self-serving ideas that support its own experiments. It's also why socialist demonize Nazis instead of demonizing National Socialists, by playing games with semantics. When the International union movement stalled out after its success in raising wages, shrinking the work week and of the work day, obtaining premium pay for overtime work --and perhaps most important, preventing lazy, non-compliant, unskilled, and disagreeable workers from being fired -- and when the workers of the world refused ( or failed) to coalesce in violent revolutions to overthrow entire political economic and social systems to reward academic theorists --- and thereby PROVE their abstract reasoning CORRECT, then the international movement dramatically converted to derivative Cultural Marxism and dropped overt economic messages in favor of organizing opposition that fragmented ANY society and economic order into self-identified victim groups held together only by appeals to solidarity and the passion for those individuals who had achieved movement leadership to maintain political and economic power obtained at any cost and dependent on indoctrinating followers with irrational levels of self-righteousness and entitlement. The activists and advocates for the "victims" groups didn't drop the entitlement to other people's money which went way beyond collective bargaining. This derivative movement descended into abuse of various tax codes to confiscate the meager assets of working people to redirect them to authoritarian and totalitarian projects based on Central planning, and giving us the Nanny State combined with unfettered immigration from around the world of people who want to have it both ways meaning a welfare state with generous benefits which are carelessly dispersed and the economic opportunities which offer great social and financial Mobility Any movement which refuses to address or correct corruption either in its own ranks or in the system it opposes is inherently and existentially compromised-- which is why communism and other forms of centralized socialism turn deadly and have collapsed into tyranny and failure rule by despotic and ruthless control freak individuals every place these experiments upon the world's population have been instituted what are the death and destruction is directly caused by famine, war, or internment into death camps.

"For some decades now, a popular conservative narrative of modern America has gone something like this: Our center-right nation, devout and industrious, is ruled by a politically liberal elite that disdains family, despises religion and celebrates indolence with government handouts. Many people find this story convincing. It helped fracture the postwar Democratic Party and midwifed the culture wars. Charles Murray, the influential conservative scholar and provocateur, believes this story is wrong. In his new book, “Coming Apart,” Murray flips the script that has energized Republican politics and campaigns since Richard Nixon: the white working class, he argues, is no longer part of a virtuous silent majority. Instead, beginning in the early 1960s, it has become increasingly alienated from what Murray calls “the founding virtues” of civic life. Murray sorts through demographic data to present a startling picture. Women in the White Working class now routinely have children outside of marriage. Less than a third of its children grow up in households that include both biological parents. The men claim physical disability at astounding rates and are less likely to hold down jobs than in the past. Churchgoing among the white working class has declined, eroding the social capital that organized religion once provided. Illegitimacy, crime, joblessness - these are not merely the much debated pathologies of a black underclass, Murray finds. They are white people problems too. And what of the white upper class? Cocooned in the same neighborhoods, this new upper class has its own culture. The men - and many of the women - hold down jobs and work hard. Couples may have babies later in life, but they are meticulous about rearing them and obsessive about getting them into college. Its members don’t watch game shows or go to bars with pool tables in them. They are skinnier. They don’t smoke. They are, Murray insists, *predominantly liberal* Yet this liberal class, Murray finds, is also truer to the founding American virtues than is the white working class." *RATHER THAN TAKING RESPONSIBILITY, conservatives are simply LASHING OUT and projecting their failures on everyone but themselves. Conservatives voted for George Bush - who started an illegal war that killed hundreds of thousands of people and led us into a global financial collapse. Conservatives ran interference while LIBERTARIAN/FREE MARKET/ ANARCHO CAPITALISTS have SABOTAGED and bankrupted our country* MOST liberals today are not Weathermen. They stand firmly against harm to children. They consider themselves patriots and are not anti-America. People of goodwill and intelligence need to work together to solve problems and meet the challenges of modern life and our current global and political realities. source NYT Nicholas Confessore

The real issue with this guy Rufo is that people like him, Jordan Peterson, Dave Rubin, Jon Haidt etc., are too polite. Their approach would have been more applicable during the 90s when this nonsense was more benign and was still called political correctness. Bottom line is if one side is going to be violent for 8 months under the guise of turning a criminal into a martyr, or banning people or getting them fired from jobs for saying certain things that are now off limits or putting political opposition in prison now, maybe it's time the other side does the same and resorts to the same tactics. If one side is playing by a set of rules the other side refuses to stoop to, the side that is taking the high road will lose.
